THE BURN CENTER AT WASHINGTON HOSPITAL CENTER

The Burn Center at Washington Hospital Center is the only adult burn treatment center in the Washington metropolitan area. This 20-bed facility features a multidisciplinary team approach to burn care that provides comprehensive, cutting-edge care for burn victims.  With over 700 admissions annually The Burn Center cares for an array or thermal, electrical and chemical injuries as well as soft tissue lesions such as those caused by TENS.
Several unique approaches to burn care set the Burn Center apart as a distinguished treatment center for burns of all size and types. They include:

 

  • 35 years of experience in the specialty treatment of burns
  • They have the experience and expertise to manage not only the treatment of burns, but the rehabilitation and return to full function
  • Implementation of best practices in burn treatment, gathered from years of experience in using aggressive treatment techniques that promote healing
  • A team of specially-trained rehabilitative therapists work with burn victims to regain function and use after a serious burn
  • An Outreach Coordinator that runs a successful outreach and education program to educate high-risk groups about burn prevention and fire safety

 

Surgical Burn Treatment

All surgical burn treatment, if necessary, is performed in a special area within the Burn Intensive Care Unit. Reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation are available for patients in the post-acute and convalescent phases, regardless of where they received treatment for their acute burns.

Intermediate Care Unit

A 15-bed Burn Rehabilitation/Intermediate Care Unit provides nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for noncritical burn-injured patients and critically injured patients who have progressed to the post-acute phase of care.

Minor Burns

Patients with truly minor burns, not requiring hospitalization, are provided with outpatient wound care and rehabilitation through The Burn Center Clinic.
