The Impact You Made in 2023
You showed up for Burn Survivors, Children and Families in 2023
Donors, volunteers and partners made an incredible impact on the burn survivors community in 2023. With you by our side, we were able to provide incredible support to burn survivors, families and children in 2023. With most of our events and efforts able to return following years of pandemic disruptions, the support rolled in so we could continue our important work for the burn community.
Because of you…
- We hosted two groups of burn survivors at the Adaptive Sports Center in Crested Butte, CO.
- We provided young burn survivors from the DC area an opportunity to attend the Children’s Burn Camp over the summer.
- In October, we welcomed more than 700 burn survivors, caregivers, and burn care professionals to the 2023 World Burn Congress, the first Phoneix Society has hosted since 2019. While many participants traveled to DC from across the U.S., we welcomed some from as far away as South Korea and Australia, demonstrating the powerful importance of the conference and the community it fosters. The DC Firefighters Burn Foundation sponsored more than 40 local burn survivors to attend this one-of-a-kind survivor support program. We thank the Bert W Martin Foundation for their continued support in making this opportunity happen for our local burn survivors. We would also like to thank the countless volunteers from DC Fire, PG County Fire, Children’s National Hospital, and MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
- In December, we presented Children’s National Hospital with a check for $90,250 in support of the pediatric burn care program. These funds will provide the staff with specialized burn care
training, burn prevention materials and programs, survivor support programs, child life and burn rehabilitation staff and equipment.
Thank you for joining us to support many incredible people and programs. Let’s do it again!
